Welcome to our IB PK class! We are an accepting community of love and learning. We start our day sharing breakfast together in the classroom. Friday's are cinnamon roll days!
One of the first activities that we did together, was to paint our very on special skin color. We mixed cinnamon, almond, peach, mahogany, and a variety of other colors to match each individual's skin.
After we painted our skin color, we made our facial features with a variety of tactile materials such as yarn, bottle caps, beans and pom-poms.
We always read from a rich selection of excellent children's literature to enhance our lessons.
We can write our own class book to share who we are!

This is MATMAN. His body is made up of shapes that we use to make letters. "BIG LINE, LITTLE LINE, BIG CURVE, and LITTLE CURVE". They may be able to sing you a song about MATMAN. He is part of the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum that we use in PK.

We fingerpainted with red and yellow fingerpaint. The students wrote their names, shapes and facial expressions on the paper. Not all of the paint ended up on the paper! This, as well as so many of our experiences, are great opportunities for language development!
We made a giant birthday card for Ms. Allen, our Principal. She felt really special!
Students enjoyed making a scarecrow out in the garden to scare the birds away!
It took teamwork to build the scarecrow! We also read the story, THE LITTLE OLD LADY WHO WASN'T AFRAID OF ANYTHING.
Doesn't our scarecrow look great? Mr. Adams is still looking for his pants and boots because the scarecrow is still outside of our classroom door.
We have been clapping, charting and drumming how many syllables are in our name.
We practice writing our names in many ways. In this photo, the students are tracing their names in their journals.
The children are writing their names with beans.
The children write each other's names as the make them cards, invitations, and letters.
Writing on the chalkboard is always a fun way to practice writing. One of these girls was copying sentences from a book that she was looking at.
We love learning through nature. We went on a nature walk.
We collected nature objects and put them in a bag.
We observed and described the objects.
We observed even closer using scientist tools.
We created art with nature.

It's fun learning with friends.
We read books on learning through nature.
We studied acorns in depth. We saw that some had holes, some were brown, some were green and some were broken. We sorted the acorns and found that some sank and some floated. We wondered why and researched the question. That is when we found out about the acorn weevil!

We made maps for the roadbuilders.
We had excellent volunteers, Ms. Bost and Ms. Heiner.

Friday is cinnamon roll day. The district has tried to use less sugar and fat in their menu.
Part of the PK curriculum is Handwriting Without Tears. We are learning all about I in this photo. We are looking at objects that begin with I. We look at who has an I in their name, read an I book, visit with an Iguana puppet and think of words that begin with an I.
We make the letter I with magnetic letter, play dough, and chalkboards.
After we erase the chalk with water and a sponge, we work in our Handwriting Without Tears workbook. This workbook will be taken home at the end of the school year.
We have been focusing on day and night. Here, the students fingerpainted a sun and are making the rays. We discussed shapes, the earth, the sun, weather and colors.
The children have shown improvement in their fine motor skills and language development.
Children learn health skills such as washing hands ofter with soap and water.
We focused on our shadows and how and why they change.
Children paired up to trace each other's shadow.
